The Hunt Country

The country extends from Chester in the west to Macclesfield in the East & used to include the Wirral Peninsula but that has not been hunted for many years. It is mainly grassland, with hedges & hunt fences. Adjacent packs are Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn's, Cheshire & North Staffordshire

History

The Cheshire Forest Hunt was formed in 1947 by Philip Hunter. He hunted the hounds himself until 1973 & remained as Master until 1976.

Both his sons, John (1970-73) & Peter (1973-98) were Masters joined by Richard Moseley Leigh (1973-82). During this time the hounds were hunted by Ron Stouph (1973-88) & Dick Chapman (1988-98).

The family connection remains as in 1998 Peter Heaton, nephew of Philip & cousin of John & Peter became Master with Mrs Beverley Burgess, Mrs Julia Kinsey & Alex Park; on various retirements he has subsequently been joined by Richard de Prez (2001), David Willis (2003) & Henry Brooks (2005).

Huntsmen during this period have been Matthew Puffer (1998-2005), Jamie Nicklin (2005-2007) & Andrew German. It remains a private pack & the hounds have been kennelled in Peover Park since 1983.
